하무리
Message by Founder
“Hamuri” is written in Korean as ‘하무리’, the Chinese character ‘하(下)’ representing our resolve to serve our community from below, and the Korean word ‘무리’ meaning ‘group or gathering’. As sons and daughters of our hometown, Busan, we have hitherto grown to be individuals preparing to take steps into the fields of our interest that go beyond the limits of our community. While most of us had not known each other previously, we are now able to identify ourselves with a common word, Hamuri.
We first gathered when the year 2012 was coming to an end. Not knowing every single person amongst each other, we had formed a group by the existing members bringing along someone new to join us. Until this day, our interests cover a diverse range of fields- economics, entrepreneurship, arts, bioengineering and medicine. Thus, it was not an easy task finding something we could all join in to do together. Through numerous discussions and brainstorming processes, the final decision we came to, as our starting activity, was creating a compilation of book reviews.
All of us are still high school students who have yet to experience and explore the world beyond academics. Throughout the three years, most of us have successfully made it through high school and are now taking our final steps so that the best are made from our past efforts. The records we have accumulated are results of our continuous dedication that could not have been possible without efficient time management skills. This is why we can confidently say that there is still much more to be seen and expected from us. In the future, as our realms of knowledge expand and as we become experienced and matured individuals occupying key positions in our society, we will strive further to share among all aspects of our community the privileges we have had since childhood. I am grateful for this amazing opportunity to exchange fruitful ideas with people of diverse talents. With a voice representing “Hamuri”, I would like to make a closing comment with a reminder for all of us: as members of Hamuri, we will diligently follow along the roads in front of us, and even create new ones if needed. We will ensure that we become firmly capable of allowing this unique legacy to continue among generations of intellectuals of Busan.
